Google’s Gonna Hammer Slow-Loading Mobile Sites

Anyone who's been an e-commerce entrepreneur for longer than five minutes is all-too-aware of this fundamental fact of online life:

You have two to three seconds to attract and keep a visitor on your site.

That's an essential topic for another time. First, there's an imminent issue that directly affects the relevance of those techniques:

Load speed

You can have an award-winning site design packed with killer offers, but if it takes visitors too long to get there, all you really have is artwork and a personal stash of cool stuff.

Search engines such as Google have accounted for load speed on desk tops for quite some time. Now, as the lessons of their Mobilgeddon policies have become commonplace, they're rightly putting load speeds on smartphones in their crosshairs.

On 17 Jan 2018, Google issued its Speed Update, alerting those who make search engine optimization a priority that, effective in July 2018, page speed will be a ranking factor for mobile searches.

Even if you're not into SEO, page speed is still a vital factor in your marketing success.

Here's the lay of the online land these days:

Clearly, your first stop in checking your load speed is a service such as Google's own Page Insights. Among other features, it'll suggest ways to improve your site's speed if it's lagging.

Other means of improvement include:

One of the easiest fixes is to keep your site simple in the first place.

There's a reason the Ramones became famous ... besides rebellion, anti-disco, and all that.

Load speed is one more reason how important it is to build your own website, even if -- make that especially if -- you're an affiliate marketer dependent on someone else's site design and construction.

It's one more factor in the marketing mix that you can control, and the more control you have, the better your odds of achieving the Dot Com lifestyle.

You'll never know unless you take action.
