The Insulin Maker  For many people the use of drugs to control the symptoms of type 2 diabetes makes it easier to function without having to do the hard work of changing diet and lifestyle habits. Unfortunately when people exclusively choose the symptom control path they don't progress toward recovery, often their diabetes condition gets worse.

The dietary habits that are at the root of developing type 2 diabetes are mostly but not exclusively long held habits. We are now seeing children develop type 2 diabetes.

I don't mean to imply that a person can't develop type 2 diabetes in a short period of time, with a specific mix of bad diet and sedentary behavior type 2 diabetes can happen fairly quickly and it can also be reversed relatively quickly.

It's currently more often the case with people that are over fifty years old ( baby boomers and older), that have food choices that come from long held habits. It is the type 2 diabetics in this group who are most likely to have difficulty changing and will often use the conventional medicine solution of drugs and monitoring. Unfortunately this approach is not a solution for recovery.

To change these habits requires a vast amount of will power. It requires changing perceptions and connections about certain foods in relation to comfort, security, well being, price and easy of availability. It will require a whole new way of thinking about what to choose to eat. It will in fact require a person to start really thinking about what any specific food will do for or against their health. There will be a lot of study involved to know what the correct food choices are that provide the benefits that reverse type 2 diabetes and lead to long term excellent health.

In most cases it matters because doing what's good for you will be good for those in your life that you care about. The rest of your family may follow your lead and avoid developing type 2 diabetes. You can even be a model for other people who need to see someone like themselves change, reverse their diabetes and regain the good health they lost.
