How Do You Cope In The Face Of Adversity


Many people around the Globe face adversity on a daily basis. It happens. It is a part of life. You face it in your job, your career, in families, but you should not let it define you.

Often times we find ourselves in circumstances beyond our control; have to quickly decide how we deal with what could be termed adversity ...the pain and disappointment. And how we allow the outcome to affect our lives. 




So how do you cope with adversity?

First you have to let go of the things you believe should happen in a certain way, things you want. Stop controlling, stop stressing yourself out feeling that things have to be a certain way, give into the process. Trust that you are guided and that everything happens for a reason and a purpose and that it guides you.

Focus on positive expectations. What you expect is what you will get.

The reason why you don't overcome adversity is because, some times you feel lost and don't know what to do. I can relate to that, as I have been there. Not anymore, because I trust the process

Here are some tips to get your mind in a place of expectations.

  • Let go and let the universe work in your favour, which means you being conscious of who you are, not resisting life.  Accept the result trusting in a higher power.
  • Meditate for relaxation
  • Walk and quiet your mind.
  • Live purposefully concentrating on what excites you
  • Believe in you, that you can overcome

There are many views on expectations but my reference is different in that it is what you are expecting to get. Not expectations of or from others 


Process Of Elimination

So you need to rely on your coping skills and allow it to kick in. Internalize and think about your situation. Getting all upset and angry would not help your situation,  so walk away concentrate on other things.  Focus! empty your mind, breathe deeply, sit very quietly and disassociate yourself from whatever your adversity or challenge is. Soon you'll become good at it.

Napolean Hill says it best:

 Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an

equal or greater benefit.

You may well have to accept the fact that you cannot do anything about the particular problem.  Then let it go!  Don't try to control it.

In the process you will learn a few things:

It would serve no purpose other than to make you stressed and become ill, with noone wanting to be around you, if you were to become emotional. Then where would you be?  

Being quiet and free of worry about your adversity allows you  to cope and quickly make some decisions with which you may be struggling, bringing you some relief. 

A good idea is to write (journal) all the things you consider challenging or are some form of adversity. As strange as it seems seeing it written is very likely to help you address or eliminate, to solve an issue or help someone.

The lesson is that in cases of adversity, find that little voice of reasoning inside, listen to that voice and act accordingly relying on the coping skills which we all possess. Realizing and accepting that some things happen for a reason and should be a lesson to be learned in the face of adversity.
