The Realities of Retirement And Living On Your Terms

The realities of retirement are that you can live life on your own terms. You can plan around all the things you have ever dreamed of, go places you've always wanted to go.

The imagination is a palette of bright colors. You can use it to touch

up memories — or you can use it to paint dreams.

~Robert Brault, rbrault.blogspot.com

All this and more presupposes that you planned your life as to what you want to do after you have retired and saved for it.

Let me ask you a question:  How many of you planned and saved for your retirement only to discover that due to inflation or other unplanned happenings, your savings is not worth what you thought it would be? Or in some cases it is almost non-existent? Or available funds appear stringent and you are hard put to decide which expense should be a priority?

That was four questions, but let's deal with what you thought your savings would be on retirement.

Unless you made some wise investment early the amount of money you saved would not have the same value as when you started saving. It is why so many seniors and retirees are finding other ways to supplement their income and change or improve their lifestyle. Many are successful at it and enjoying the realities of retirement.

Others have no idea where to begin.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Examine what you did over the years and acknowledge your field of expertise.
  • Is there something you love doing or was desirous of doing like a craft which you never had the opportunity to pursue - fashion design, cake decorating, baking, toy making, carpentry, pottery, encouraging people to be their best self - motivational, mentoring, gardening - growing orchids, floral arrangements, fixing things, photography and I am sure you can think of more. Use these ideas to build  a business around your story and share it in a video or live to peak your audience's interest. Teaching what you know.
  • What is it about your life's experience you can share. Do you like to tell children stories and get the reaction of each to the stories they are told. Make it interactive!
  • What are the place you have traveled and would like to talk about, have you some memorabilia to link with these places you have been?
  • If you were good at selling things then you search and find an affiliate market for products you recognize as useful and promote it. Affiliate marketing has become a huge business.
  • The same applies if you love to travel want to book a hotel, rent a car or time share and save. There is an incentive to join and you can introduce others to the program and benefit while having fun. Strictly consumer based.

In the end and in many cases the realities of retirement and living on your terms means finding stress-free opportunities that enables you to live a lifestyle that suits your retirement status.

It means not having the daily commute, and as you wind down from the daily grind you search for and give yourself the gift of truly living life on your terms. It means freeing your mind to appreciate the beauty around you, really seeing the world, both near and afar, all the things we take so much for granted, read the books you have either half read or wanted to read, indulge in what is important to you and your family, relax, be grateful and give thanks that you have made it this far. You may even want to spend your time giving back to a community that could do with your help.

To help you make the transition Talk to me. I am here to help
