Can You Appreciate The Difference Between Constructive And Destructive Critism

Can you appreciate the difference between constructive and destructive critism?

Approval of self is so important that critism, be it constructive or destrutive, will not phase you.

Constructive critism may be described as "containing helpful and specific suggestions for positive change." Saying something like, I understand what you are saying/doing but have you ever thought that it could be done this way? Or if you tried it this way this could be the result. A comment like that opens up another view of looking at whatever it is a person may be doing or thinking.

On the other hand, although you may think you are being helpful, not everyone appreciates it so you need to be thoughtful in your delivery. When in doubt keep quiet and observe. You may get another opportunity to show things from a different perspective, for a more effective result.

Destructive critism can be malicious. hurtful, demeaning and disruptive. No one wants to associate with a person whose only purpose in life is to be destructive in their critism. It distroy lives. In fact when you meet someone like that you begin to wonder what kind of childhood did he not get over! People like that often come across as being bitter.

In your lifetime you will come across personalities like that, then it is your turn to be constructive, if you are allowed. Why would you want to do that? you may well ask.

I say that it is because you see beyond the surface and into their pain and that they seem not to know any other way but to try to destroy others.

Constructive or distructive, most people do not deal with critism very well and would rather not hear it. They see it as challenging especially in the way it is delivered, feeling that you are being critical, even though that is not your intent.

It is much like reported speech. In a room full of people listening to a speaker, it is rare that you will find everyone leaving with the same interpretation. There is always a different spin on what each individual hears, or think about what they hear.

Critism can convey negativity and affect people especially low on self-esteem and lacking in confidence. People in this category feel lost and alone and need help so instead of constructively or distructively being critical, it calls for the kind of understanding that involves listening with the willingness to see beyond what appears on the surface, to being strong enough to offer support and possibly the hand of friendship and encouragement; this all built on your observation.

I appreciate your taking the time to read what I have written and look forward to your comments. Thank you for your time.
