Walking With Or Walking Without Purpose

I  personally find walking without purpose to be therapeutic on different levels.

As a young person in days gone by I would be sitting quietly somewhere and suddenly got up and started walking. We need to do that sometimes.  I later found that when I was disturbed about something I would just walk until I felt no longer  disturbed, can breathe more easily, solves whatever problem there is and  make decisions as I sometimes I just walked without purpose.

Now I walk for exercise and to begin my day with that feel good feeling. If you have a walking partner who do very little or no talking  or you simply walk alone, you find yourself engrossed in your thoughts as if on another level. It sharpens the senses. You see things more clearly and often find solutions when you walk without a purpose rather than sitting at a desk or trying to discuss your thoughts with others all the time.

The answers are usually found within, you just have to give it room to surface.  It is at this point when you discuss your thoughts that you know what you want the outcome to be; You know the answer and are simply airing so that different perspectives and intelligent discussions can take place.

To walk without purpose there has be some amount of attention paid to your surroundings so it is best these days to walk in areas where there is no danger while you are lost in thought. The connection between the pace at which you walk and the pace of your thoughts is a strong bond, also dependent on your environment.

Throughout the ages creative men and women, a lot of whom are famous, just walked for walk sake and through their thought processes have produced some interesting and thought provoking results.

Whenever you go walking, leave the gadgets behind. To be walking and texting  - the fad of the day, really contributes nothing except to put you in danger and at risk of creating problems for others.  That's risky business! There is nothing creative about it, no value.  After all we survived for years before texting or constantly being on our cell phones.

Carve out a space and time when there is not the need for phone or texting. You owe it to yourself to give your mind  some quiet time so mind and body can connect in a meaningful way.  Strange comment I know but true nevertheless. You will find that you become more productive.

A research report  from Standford University  conducted by Marily Oppezzo and Daniel L. Schwartz  and titled "Give Your Ideas Some Legs: The Positive Effect of Walking on Creative Thinking"  suggests that even walking on a treadmill improved creative thinking.

"Walking opens up the free flow of ideas, and it is a simple and robust solution to the goals of increasing creativity and increasing physical activity."

 Walking without purpose  should be distraction free.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.
