Give Yourself a Little More Time

Today I’d just like to share one mistake I used to make (especially when I first got started with personal development). It was a mistake that held me back quite a bit from making progress and that dragged my self-esteem down. maybe you or a team mate may benefit from what I experienced.

That mistake was that I often just tried something – like a personal development strategy or tip – once or sometimes twice and thought that would be enough to see if it worked.

I have since learned that this is in many cases not the case. This stuff that I and many others write about is not a light switch you can just hit once and then your life is different.

No, a lot of the time it takes a whole bunch of tries to get something to work.

Just like when you learned to ride your bike, when you play a new video game or when you try a new sport. And then you need even more of doing that thing to make it into a habit that will truly stick and become a natural part of your life.

So if you try something I write about, give it and yourself a fair chance. When you work with me, we dive deep into learning models and belief systems.

If you try breathing with your belly for 1 minute to calm yourself give that exercise a full dozen tries before you make a judgment if this is something for you.

If you try taking just one small step forward at a time to overcome procrastination then use it each day for a week in school or at work before you evaluate if it works for you.

Thinking, hoping and expecting that positive results will come quicker than may be possible can hold you back from making real progress.You are focusing on the absense of it you see, and what do you think you will attract more of? EXACTLY!

And it may sometimes end up in you lowering your self-esteem and beating yourself up because you wonder why this doesn’t work for you and start thinking that there must be something wrong with you when it works for so many other people in the world.

What limiting, non-serving belief have you been habitually entertaining could you let go of?

Try pretending that all you now believe to be real, is not... And that all you wish to be real, is. If only for a few minutes each day.

Then, try acting like all you wish to be real already is real. With just a word here, a sentence there, or some little demonstration. If only in private.

Before long, you won't even remember if what you used to believe was real or just a dream.

I'm pretending you already do this stuff whenever you want change,

"Who me? I never thought that!" I hear it all the time.

There’s nothing wrong with you. Just give what you’re trying out and yourself a bit more time. You are worth the wait!
