Being Aware Of AND How to Stop Negative Self-Talk

Hi All!

I hope you’re having a recharging weekend.

The post this Sunday is about living a happy life.

And about how your inner critic may be one of biggest obstacles standing in your way of that. 

Your ATTITUDE effects your ALTITUDE! The way we talk to ourselves is so important! Be sure you are fueling your mind with loving, encouraging, uplifting, and empowering "self talk"!

If you make a mistake or fail, if someone criticizes you or if you are just getting tired then that small inner voice can become louder and louder and drag and keep you and your motivation and self-esteem down.

It can tell you that you are stupid or lazy. That you will not succeed. That you are worse or uglier than someone else.

Being able to turn the inner critic around or make it shut up as soon as it pops up is a very useful skill.

Being Aware Of AND How to Stop Negative Self-Talk

Here are two simple steps to help you get started with that.

1. Say stop. 

Simply create a stop word or stop-phrase that you say or shout in your mind right away when your critic pipes up with a distorted and self-esteem hurting thought. 

Say: Stop! 

Or use my favorite:

No, no, we are not going down that road again!

This will disrupt that train of thought before it gets bigger and more powerful.

2. Remind yourself what this will lead to over the next year or more. 

After you have said stop, remind yourself of the high cost of self-esteem hurting thought patterns.

Do it by reminding yourself of how the inner critic has shaped your life so far. In your mind see how the cost of letting it roam free for another year will affect you.

Then go even further - 5 years into the future - and see in your mind how it will have an impact not only on your life but also in the lives of the people closest to you.

This reminder makes it, in my experience, a lot easier to say no and to let go of  such destructive thoughts and replace them with ones that benefit you and the world around you a lot more. 

Like for instance motivating or kind thoughts when you have a setback or hit a bump in the road.

Becoming more aware of how you speak internally is a huge step to creating the life of your dreams. Love the Process
Every waking moment we talk to ourselves about the things we experience. Our self-talk, the thoughts we communicate to ourselves, in turn control the way we feel and act.... Replace your critical self-talk with constructive self-talk. It will make all the difference!

When I actively choose to create a great day, I think better, feel better, have less stress, take action, get more done, and feel good about myself. So I start my day with the powerful words of Self-Talk that say, ‘I choose to make today an incredible day!'
