Alignment of the Spine

For additional information  Click Here

Our spines are so wonderfully unique.  The spine is one of the few structures of the body that provides both stability and mobility.  It is the structural foundation of the body.  It is composed of thirty-three bones called vertebrae, and our lower back (lumbar spine) is composed of five bones that are much larger and stronger than the rest of the vertebrae and allow for the greatest of movement.  The lower back muscles bear a tremendous amount of force and still support much of our body weight.  It is vital that we take care of our lower back in order to lessen back pain and other health problems associated with a weak spine.

In order to keep our spines healthy, we need to exercise the muscles that support and move our spine.  Without exercise, our spine becomes stiff and inflexible.  Postural misalignment puts excessive pressure on our disc, which causes intense pain.

Learning how to move through the spine is essential for our overall health and the function of the body.  The condition of our spine has a major impact on everything that we do.  When the spine is healthy, life feels better, and we move with ease.

The best way to maintain spine alignment is through a neutral spine.  Maintaining a neutral spine position will allow your spine to move naturally.

A neutral spine is the natural position of the spine when all three curves of the spine cervical (neck), thoracic (middle), and lumbar (lower) - are in proper alignment.
