“Sometimes we spend so much time and energy thinking about where we want to go that we don't notice where we happen to be.”

 Dan Gutman

The holidays have arrived and hopefully you all found your Thanksgiving table full of food, family and friends to share thanks with.

By my own choice, due to adding an exciting roll out of a new product, I wanted to work the whole weekend. So, I had big plans of locking myself in and reviewing strategies for the upcoming new year.

But the blessing of friendship had other plans for me. Yes, I worked and worked, but took some time out to join a friend for dinner that day. It was just the two of us and I could tell she had put most of the day into fixing our meal.

During the last ten years she has developed an excruciating arthritis that twists and bends your bones constantly with never any relief from the pain. Her hands and feet barely recognizable, yet she goes on with no thought to it … as if the pain was not even there.

We had a baked hen with all of the fixins’ and homemade sweet potato pie to top the meal off. Every bit of the meal just seemed to melt in my mouth. Much better than my anticipated turkey TV dinner. I wondered how she did it, while most of us complain and talk about why we can’t do anything.

I thanked her for such a simple, yet most memorable meal as we laughed about old memories and pranks that we have played. Later, as I sat back down to work, I noticed that my whole being, including my spirit ... felt so rejuvenated.

Looking back at the experience today, I am so thankful for it.

“We would worry less if we praised more. Thanksgiving is the enemy of discontent and dissatisfaction.”  H.A. Ironside

“One of the main reasons that we lose our enthusiasm in life is because we become ungrateful..we let what was once a miracle become common to us. We get so accustomed to his goodness it becomes a routine..”

 Joel Osteen

“We pray for the big things and forget to give thanks for the ordinary, small (and yet really not small) gifts.”

 Dietrich Bonhoeffer

“Thankfulness creates gratitude which generates contentment that causes peace.”

Todd Stocker
