As small business owners, almost daily, we are bombarded with statistics on how digital impacts us at the business level. We are reminded how digital has totally changed the landscape and how we should be operating.

In what seemed almost overnight,The Rules Of Engagement, with our customers changed with the introduction of Apps on the Smartphone.

With that said, next our advertising strategy coming to a standstill as TV sets went off and stayed off. With no one reading newspapers anymore, it was no longer clear how to reach our customer base. We can’t follow the big boys on this one. With 23 or more of them closing their doors, they apparently had or have no clue.

Although, the midnight oil is burning and the need for a decision is fast approaching, I thought we would take a look at the digital world from a different angle. Step outside the box for just awhile, take in some fresh air and leave the hype behind.

What we are looking at is today's inventions, so they are not on the market yet, but most are beneficial to society medically, one could save us some money.

Google Smart Contact Lens Lets Diabetes Patients Monitor Their Glucose Levels By The Second

Aimed at diabetics, the contact lens allows wearers to constantly monitor their glucose levels. It can take as frequent as one reading per second, ensuring users get up-to-date information that can prove crucial to their well-being.

Bose Hearphones Earbuds Can Double As Hearing Aids In Noisy Environments

Designed for use in noisy environments, these earbuds let you tune down the noise, so you can focus in on any conversation you’re having. Whether you’re in a bustling airport, a loud club, or in the vicinity of workers drilling on the road, this thing lets you mute the noise, so you can actually chat with your companion or eavesdrop on a juicy conversation nearby.

Pilot Earpiece Translates Foreign Languages For You In Real Time

You know how in sci-fi, alien visitors will use advanced technologies to automatically translate our language so they can understand what we’re saying? Turns out, that kind of language processing tech isn’t all that far from getting in our hands. At least, that’s the promise behind the Pilot, a smart earpiece that will automatically translate foreign words or phrases it picks up into one you can understand.

Scientists Create White Laser And They Could Illuminate Future Homes

A team of researchers showed how a new breed of semiconductor lasers can emit light across the full visible spectrum, producing the full-range of colors necessary to generate white laser. The team used a thin layer of semiconductor with three parallel segments, each one emitting one of the three elementary colors. Depending on how their output is tuned, this layer can produce any color in the spectrum that, when combined, produces laser that is pristine white.

Color-Blind People Can Use The Enchroma CX Sunglasses To See The World In All Its Hues

Color blindness is currently incurable for majority of people who suffer from the affliction. Seeing the world in incomplete hues is a whole lot better than being devoid of vision, it still can cause problems in one’s everyday existence  A new pair of sunglasses called Enchroma CX can help with that.

Unlike regular sunglasses that reduce color definition by darkening the view, this eyewear will actually allow majority of color-blind people to see the world in full color. It does this by selectively reducing the transmission of specific wavelengths of light, resulting in stronger color signals getting sent to the brain.

Scientists Just Made Mind Reading A Highly-Probable Part Of The Future

Reading minds has long been a staple of science fiction abilities. Like many superpowers, we’re working towards gaining them via the magic of science. And researchers just took a big step towards realizing it in a system called Brain-to-Text.

Developed by a team from the Cognitive Systems Lab at KIT and the Wadsworth Center in New York, the system basically reconstructs speech by reading a person’s brainwaves. They weren’t just able to identify words, but complete sentences in continuous speech, effectively inventing a system that works like an artificial intelligence telepath of sorts.
