This base of this marketing plan is from It is a 12 month plan, with marketing ideas for each month of the year. Anything written in light blue is from their suggestion. That way you know which ones are mine.

August, due to the school year getting longer and longer has become a quiet month of the year. Instead of vacationing during the month, most are occupied with thoughts of school needs coming up and some business will experience a dramatic drop in sales.

SCORE recommends, “August is halftime, a month where things tend to lag a bit because everybody’s on vacation or holding back because school’s about to start. Don’t do  anything new this month, but take time to work your social media plan and send your newsletter.

Also take a look at your metrics to see which initiatives have worked best so far. It might also be time to start thinking way ahead, while it’s slow, and start planning for the upcoming holiday season. Digging into your analytics for last year to see traffic spikes and what worked is also a good plan for holiday pre-planning.”

August is a good month to start planning your holiday strategy. It’s also a good month to pre introduce a new product, with a full introduction to the product in September.

Some ideas for August:

  • If you have a catering business or a type of business that is busy during the Christmas and New Year., run a “Book Now” special with a discount.
  • Summer Clearance
  • Back To School Sale
  • Encourage your local churches to book a Saturday Car Wash  for free of charge if you have a brick and mortar. They can charge or accept donations for their cause.
  • Turn your parking lot into a swap meet, flea market or garage sale for  a weekend. Invite vendors and locals to set up.
  • A 50’s theme car show
  • Online? Then tie yourself up with a local cause or brick and mortar and promote the cause or support for a local happening. The idea is to get your website out there.
  • Online? Is there a local radio station that still promotes a business? Buy radio time and promote your business and web site with  different hourly sales

Just because you are a strictly online business, does not mean that you cannot be visible. If you are one to support local business then partner up with a business
