"Opportunities don’t happen, you create them.
~Chris Grosser

Amazon largely defined modern ecommerce and then leveraged its expertise with a leading ecommerce platform that it launched as Amazon Web Services (AWS) in 2004. It has been innovating rapidly ever since.”

Once upon a time, when you needed an item, you drove or walked to a store and usually while you were shopping, you picked up other items as well. Every day was a sure bet for most retailers they would have sales.

It is hard to believe that era is long gone. Payless Shoe Source has filed Chapter 11 and will be closing all of their 400 stores. “The retailer can’t match the price or experience of online options.”

Payless is another sad example of what is happening to brick and mortar giants who were either too slow in recognizing the trend of online shopping or refused to change.

Guilty of their own dismal ending, the jobs they once created will be long gone, affecting thousands of workers and their families. Radio Shack, Sears, Macy’s and so many more retailers this year will not survive until Christmas 2017.

Most of my online sales are B2B sales and I find the fact amazing that most small business owners are still in slumber regarding what is happening. As if because they are an online business, there is no need to worry about what is happening to brick and mortar retail. But they should be.

Most of those that are going to experience this round of layoffs will not sit at home and collect benefits. True, the minimum wage worker will move into fast food or other service related areas.

But, starting with lower management, this layoff and probably for the first time in their careers to even go through a layoff, what will happen is that the cold, hard and fast reality will set in … there are no jobs out there. They will realize very quickly they will have to either create their own jobs or hook up with companies that need a sales force.

For some of you, you may be able to hire out of this pool of bright talent. especially if you are looking on hiring outside for social media or someone that can help you in marketing strategy.

If I were a MLM distributor, I and my downline would be meeting with these people right now. I would be fine tuning my training and follow up procedures. If I sold franchises, I would be doing the same thing. These two areas are ripe for growth and I would be advertising, advertising and then advertising some more.

For those in slumber? Here is what you should be worried about. A mean and lean competition will be moving in with fresh ideas and new strategies. They have the experience needed in sales and have already gone thru the ups and downs and their commitment to themselves and to their success will be very high.

If that is not enough reason for you to come out of hibernation, consider this. Your new competition will not be using the tools of yesterday that most of you are hanging onto, nor will they be joining the business owners parked on the fence.

Instead, they will be coming armed with the newest technology available with the understanding on how to strategize, implement  and use it to build their customer base and loyalty.

In conclusion, it is almost a sure bet that most, if not all, these brand new small business owners are now currently Smartphone users. They will understand the importance of tapping into this lucrative market and will not hesitate to take the money left on the table and run.

Thank you for stopping by!
