Yesterday, we took a look at WHY people buy.

Today, we are going to look at...

Part 2: How do I get people to buy?

There is an old saying...

“You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.”

That saying always bothered me. Why can't you make him drink?

You can't MAKE him drink if he does not WANT to.

At that point you have two choices:

1) Help the horse WANT to drink, or
2) Find a different horse.

A third option that many marketers seem eager to try is to offer the horse
something else to drink.

"You don't want water? How about milk or apple juice?"

That's completely absurd to me! There's little selling involved in that approach,
and it creates confusion for the potential buyer.


People today are becoming much more savvy to sales tricks of the trade. They
are immune to most tactics and are even completely put off at the first sign
of hype or high-pressured sales.

In today's market, people LIKE to buy (power of choice), but people do NOT
want to be “sold” by someone else.

Only by selling themselves have they retained the power of choice.

Any business worthy of your attention will first explain the direct benefits
to you well before asking you to plop down your hard earned cash.

I have said previously that it is not WHAT you sell, but HOW you sell it.

The key here is “tell”... don't “sell”.

Understanding why people buy something is crucial in order to avoid making
the common mistakes that lead to failure in TE marketing.
