4 Insights Into Converting Cold Traffic

A few times a week I get questions from readers
who are failing to convert cold traffic into leads
and sales.
 
They always start by telling me how advanced they
are and how I can skip the BS basics because they
have been doing this for years.
 
They don't see that learning the basics is what
gives you the knowledge to be successful and that
doing something wrong for years doesn’t make you
an expert.
 
Here is my answer.

Thanks for taking the time to write me. Since you
aren’t having success I would guess you lack the
basics.
 
Regardless of how many advanced courses you have
taken, without the basics nothing is going to
work.
 
It is like having the keys to a Ferrari when you
have never driven. It may be fun to get behind the
wheel and dream, but that’s where it ends.
 
To have any level of success you need to know 5
basic things.
 
1-Copywriting
 
Being able to write a decent copy is a must. You
don't have to write like Gary Bencivenga, but you
do need to understand what makes good copy and how
to structure it.
 
Grab this book from Amazon: How to Write a Good
Advertisement: A Short Course in Copywriting. It’s
a bank breaking $15.69.
 
2-Persuasion
 
Next, you need to understand the art of
persuasion. At the end of the day you are really
trying to persuade someone to do something, like
buy your product or join your email list.
 
Get this classic: Influence: The Psychology of
Persuasion. It’s $10.16 on Amazon.
 
3-Building a customer avatar
 
This is something that most people skip because
they already think they know everything about
their customer. That’s like not going to the gym
because the people there are out of shape.
 
It’s just not smart.
 
You have to build a customer avatar and really get
into the mind of this person. You have to know
what scares and motivates them.
 
Here is just one example to get you started.
 
Why does a middle-aged male suddenly want to get
in shape?
 
He may tell other people that he wants to lose
weight or some other surface answer. But this is
not the real answer.
 
It’s because he fears his wife is looking at
younger men who are in better shape than he is.
 
He doesn’t want to lose her and he doesn't want to
admit he is getting older and losing his youth.
 
That is the kind of punch in the face that makes
people get up and buy something.
 
The minute he pictures himself ripped and riding
around in a convertible with his wife struggling
to keep her hands off of him, he is buying your
product.
 
4-Ethics
 
And above all you need to have ethics. The
universe works in strange but predictable ways.
 
So never lie or cheat because it’s going to come
back and bite you. It’s just how life works.
 
Just doing these few things would put you light
years ahead of most marketers.
