How To Use Twitter For Success and Lead Generation

When most people think of lead generation on social media, they think of Facebook ads. But Twitter is the quiet achiever of lead generation. Below are some methods of lead generation using Twitter and free tools.

Your Bio

Most people use their Twitter bio to introduce themselves, but you can use it to direct users to a landing page, your blog, or any other lead generation destination you choose. But remember, people like to buy but not to be sold which means it’s best to state your offer without using too strong a sales pitch.

Your Header

When people arrive at your page the first thing they will see is your header. The header can contain easy to read links. For example, you can include information that you couldn’t fit into your bio. You could also add a link to your blog, your other social account links, or a picture of your book.

Pin a Tweet To Your Newsfeed

If you have a tweet that has received a lot of engagement or you want to generate traffic for a tweet linking to a landing page, you can select the drop-down menu from the top-right-hand corner of the tweet and select ‘Pin To Your Profile Page’. This will be the first tweet members will read when they read your newsfeed. If it interests them, they could click through to your offer.

The Best Times To Post

Depending on your market the best times to post are any spare time people have. Hubspot says that “Wednesday is the best day to tweet to business to business clients, and the weekends are best if you are marketing to consumers”. But people are on Twitter in the morning on their commute to work (if they don’t drive), at morning tea, at lunch-time, after work, and during the evening. Crowdfire offers its members a tool to schedule their tweets and will post it at the best time for that member’s account. This service is available on all accounts both free and paid.

Use The Most Popular Hashtags

Twitter is one social media site where the use of hashtags is widespread(as well as Google Plus and Instagram). When you’re creating your tweet Twitter suggests popular hashtags, but there is another tool that analyses Twitter hashtags with precision. That tool is states that hashtags “increase the chances (by 50% to 100%) of your tweet being retweeted, liked, clicked or answered”. shows you which hashtags dominate by increasing the text size of selected hashtags. It also displays a graph to show over time how popular a hashtag has been. To access more analysis you need a paid account.

Use Hashtags To Find More Interested Leads

Twitter can be a tool to find active users. Twitter search can be utilized to find Twitter users that are actively engaging with other members tweets. Once you have searched for a keyword or hashtag, look for tweets that have been retweeted or liked. Then click the tweet and click the retweets or like label and follow all those people that have engaged with that tweet. These people are potential leads that are most likely to follow you back and engage with your tweets, and possibly become your customers.

Find Influencers That Have A Wide Reach

Twitter search can also be used to find influencers. The members receiving the retweets and likes are more than likely to be influencers. This means you should follow the influencers. Another Twitter tool you can use is Twitter Lists. You create lists in Twitter by clicking the 3 dots (within a Twitter user’s profile page) and clicking on ‘Add or Remove From Lists’ and then click on ‘Create List’. By creating a list of influencers you can retweet these influencers without needing to search for them.

Participate in Twitter Chats

To participate in Twitter chats search for #twitterchat or you could search for ‘”your subject” + Twitter chat’ to find Twitter chats to join. This will allow you to become more engaged with your followers and meet new people. You are also likely to receive more mentions, retweets, likes, followers, and clicks on your tweets, as people in Twitter chats are more likely to be more receptive to the conversation taking place.

Promote a Tweet with Twitter Ads

For a fee, you can promote your tweets using Twitter Ads. Like other social media platforms, Twitter has collected data about its users and uses this data to sell advertising to advertisers. You can use this service depending on your goal. Your goals could include getting more traffic to your website, getting more followers, getting more retweets or likes, or lead generation. Your tweet will appear within your target audience’s newsfeed and be labeled ‘promoted’.
