Tame Your Temper

Know your Hot Buttons! List 3 things - right now - off the top of your head - that have a tendency to push you over the edge... If you can identify them, that is the first step to getting a better handle on situations that are bent on pushing you over the edge. Realize the reactive, physical connection that takes place when you come to the brink of these temper bouts. Know your body's warning signs... * Increased heart beat * Tightness in chest * Knots in stomach * Tense jaw These are all WARNING SIGNS that something explosive is about to take place and before it does, you are still in the driver's seat. Anger is often a cover up for some other issue; it can be the first response to a deeper emotion. Fear, frustration, jealousy, sadness, disappointment, guilt, or shame may be the underlying matter. Think - "What happened that made me angry?" "What else did I feel when it happened?" CAGE YOUR RAGE. When you overpower your anger, you are stating that you are the authority - it's not a democracy - on votes will be taken - you are in charge. Choose to step back from the situation - take a break and review your options. Then tame your anger and let it out on your terms, not wild and unreserved like an emotional tasmanian devil. I have lots of great strategies on managing run away emotions - we spend lots of time looking at what we identify as the catalyst - other people, outsiders, and situations. But there are more productive measures that can be implemented in order to get more desirable results. Check out my website and let me help you master your emotions and create better outcomes so that you can stop sabotaging your own success.
