What is a Strong Man?

Here we are at the beginning of Men’s Health Month - June 2018. I dare say the intention of this month is for men to become stronger. If they were fully healthy, fully engaged, firing on all cylinders - then there’d be no need to pause for reflection and re-booting.

So in order to get back to that Strong Man, it seems useful to point out his description, otherwise we may walk right past him. And in all fairness, we have to touch on whether we’re focused on the physical, mental, or emotional. Is it possible to be strong in all three of these areas simultaneously? And if you had to separate them out, which should be the priority?

"Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up.”

                                               --- Gen. George S. Patton, Jan 6, 2011

Wow. He stated this almost 100 years ago! Some things change...

So let’s stick with the strength of the mind for the remainder of this writing. The powerful, malleable, dynamic mind. Can men really control this or is the attempt more like a little kid on a full force fire hose?

A more accurate question is not CAN he, but rather - WILL he?

Often a man has the CAPACITY to make right choices over extended periods of time. But the hypnotic flesh can be a gold medalist in the area of seduction, distraction, and false promises.

Most of the time it all comes down to bait and switches and disappointing outcomes. And this is why Gen. Patton said - if the MIND stays at the helm - chaos can be avoided.

I have but one question for you, dear reader. How strong is your mind? If it’s not where it ought to be, what are your plans to improve it? Do you hang out with other strong-minded, purpose-driven men? Or are you just whistling Dixie and rolling with the punches?

I challenge you to identify 3 strong men you admire and examine the strength of their spirit that commands your attention.

Choose to become a stronger man.

When asked about the exquisite carving of the masterpiece David, Michelangelo stated -

“I saw the angel in the marble and
carved until I set him free.”

Is there a STRONGER MAN inside of you, waiting to be freed?

Are you already at the top of your game? If not, why not? The checkered flag has been waved and you are officially on the clock. And time may or may not be on your side.

Your best bet...    Make every day count.
