Pursuing Your Passions with Coach Kim

When I mention pursuing your passion I get a variety of responses because the concept means different things to different people.

In even mentioning the phrase, some listeners will immediately go to their deepest desires, evoking pictures of romantic interludes. To others, pursuing your passion may mean “getting on your grind” and rarely coming up for air….  and LOVING IT.

I am definitely referring to the latter scenario, whereby in pursuing your passion you lose track of time, reality, and all that is outside of your laser focus.

Is that degree of pursuit healthy?

Sometimes it is – if it exists for just a season. As we journey through life we learn that everything comes with a price and that there is typically a yin/yang thing going on that demands balance. Taking too much from one end always has a cost because LIFE DEMANDS BALANCE.

Benefits of Pursuing Your Passion

1.  Minimizes distractions
2.  Pushes you to your objective faster
3.  Increases your skill level with that particular activity
4.  Provides a huge sense of satisfaction
5.  Allows you to evaluate your priorities and determine if your passions are worth the associated costs

And it is on point number five that I want to dwell for a moment.

Pursuing your passion calls for sacrifice in other areas. And if everyone on your team has not bought into your dream, lock, stock and barrel - you may be creating a divergence instead of a jointly coveted prize.

How do you get around that?

Open Communication. It can be very effective to get your "teammates" around you (some call them family members) and say – these are my intentions for the next ninety days. This is my goal and in order to accomplish it, I am going to have to go into a tunnel vision mindset. And because of that, I will be out of the normal family routine for a while.

And when I come out, on the other end, we can celebrate, make up for lost time, and bring things back into balance. When you are set on pursuing your passion, you must convey to the team that you are actually putting a lot on the line for them. Make sure they know that you know that…

“You are doing the things today, that others won’t, so you can all have the things tomorrow that others won’t."

Somebody has got to pay the price because The Good Life is not free.

Pursuing your Passion has to point to an end that outweighs the means. Your business should be just a vehicle to help provide for you the things that really matter – financial peace, security, options, a bright, hope-filled future that has many options.

At the ripe young age of 10 years old, Jaylin Fleming has quite the head on his shoulders that points to balance, sacrifice, expectation, and excellence. He has mastered the art of pursuing passion. You will enjoy and appreciate what the character and maturity he brings to the table – he will likely cause you to step up your game ;-)

Onward and Upward,
Coach Kim

PS  This is where I have learned to pursue my passion - with grace, style, and joy. SEE FOR YOURSELF.
