US Military: A Privilege to Serve

Published on 8/5/2012
For additional information  Click Here

I served in Uncle Sam's Army for 7 years, most of my time overseas, and enjoyed every moment of my experience - well most of them - not particularly low crawling through mud or eating re-hydrated food or jumping up at 3 am to report to duty and prepare our equipment to roll out the gates just as a trial run to see how quickly we could be fully prepared to act if necessary. The list of these gritty particulars could go on and on, but they really are dim in comparison to what I got out of my experience. I received A1 professional leadership training, the opportunity to travel and live abroad, a chance to see how I really responded under combat pressure, the unique classification of becoming Airborne qualified, and most of all, the pleasure of meeting and marrying an officer and a gentleman! We both left the military to start a family and now fondly look back at all the great experiences we had both in Germany and Panama. I felt I had to write this brief blog because so many thank me for serving my country, but I really do have to say that it was I who received the privilege. I would not have changed a thing and I say that it was I who got the best end of the deal. To veterans and active duty members world wide, I do give a hearty "hooo-ah hooo-ah" and say it is a great honor to be in the fraternity.
