7 Ethical Principles of professional Persuasion

I was listening to FunnelHacker Radio on Stitcher this morning and was reminded of some lessons that already knew but hadn’t organized well.

 

Akbar Sheikh is a genuine “rags to riches” story whose combined a great deal of personal desire with some shrewd business practices and gone from near homeless to millionaire with cash flow in a very short period of time.

 

He was talking about how he’s building a significant business using the 7 principles outlined below…

 

Notice the word Ethical in the title? It’s the key word far too many skip over. Don’t...

 

This is not meant to be an in depth review of the 7 principles, just an overview. I”ll “flesh out” each of these 7 in individual posts about each topic over the coming month.

 

Here we go with the 7...

 

 

  • Authority

 

 

You have to answer the question of “who are you and why should I listen to you.”

 

That can be hard when you are new to any business. That’s when you have to lean on the authority available to you.

 

 

  • Scarcity

 

 

Fear of loss and desire for gain are the 2 dominant motivators and more people are motivated by fear of loss.

 

Pay attention to scarcity in persuasion.

 

 

  • Good Copy

 

 

It’s no secret that really good copywriters are paid really HUGE amounts of money by the big companies to write their commercials.

 

That doesn’t mean you have to pay big bucks for quality copy but you have to pay attention to getting as good at copywriting as you can.

 

 

  • Tenacity

 

 

Whether by email, snail mail, telephone call, text and or some combination of those methods you HAVE to have follow up to be effective.

 

 

  • Social Proof

 

 

You need reviews, recommendations, endorsements. When somebody else is willing to say that YOU are good at something…

 

Then…

 

You have social proof.

 

 

  • Reciprocity

 

 

People like to give back to people that have given them value. In fact they often feel guilty if they don’t.

 

You want people to feel that YOU have given THEM so much value that…

 

They “owe you one

 

 

  • Likeability

 

 

There are SO many ways to be UNlikeable it could be a college course (probably is somewhere).

 

You can do well in the other 6 but if you not likeable, you cut your odds of people doing business with you dramatically.
