The Big 3 Character Influencers

One of my habits is to listen to informational or inspiration podcasts on twice a day walks,

I was listening to Michael Hyatt this evening on a podcast on Stitcher (Android phone equivalent of Itunes)...

If you are not familiar, Michael Hyatt is one of the favorite mentors of many of the “who’s who” in business and marketing.

People I admire, admire Michael Hyatt. They look to him for counsel and mentoring. So after hearing his name multiple times, I decided to “check him out” and put his podcast on my favorite list. That led to a bit of binge listening.

In the 3 forces that shape character

He got my attention and my affirmation. I was nodding my head, smiling and silently saying…

“Yep”...

It’s a simple 3 point message based on what shapes our character. The observation is that when your character is aligned with your purpose you perform infinitely better.

Doesn’t matter which area of your life. Could be in your family life, parenting life, business life, physical fitness or in some social role you have. Lining up character and purpose helps.

But what affects your character? How do some people seem so “together” while others frequently seem like they “fall off the wagon” repeatedly or worse never seem to accomplish anywhere near their potential because they are that “flawed character” nobody wants to be around or deal with…

It’s 3 things…

  • Your mental consumption

That’s what you putting into your own mind. You know the old adage, garbage in, garbage out. If you are viewing “bad stuff” or listening to too much news coverage. You might want to “check that”.

  • The people you associate with

Jim Rohn is often given credit for saying “You are the sum total of the 5 people you spend the most time with” and it’s true. If you are hanging out with the crowd from the bar, or just good folks with no ambition you might want to consider finding a new crowd.

  • Your personal habits

Do you swear when you shouldn’t or way too often? Do you drink excessively? Do you get enough exercise?

Our personal habits frequently create that “hamster wheel” that we can never seem to get off of but they are OUR habits and we can change them. When we replace a bad one with a good one we are well on the way towards better results.

Each one of these 3 should be a topic of a future post but for now, I encourage you (like I’m encouraging myself) to pay attention of what you put in your mind, who you associate with and what habits you have (or have you).

PS - one of the tools I use to craft my life is an online platform called Simpleology. It’s a toolkit for managing the most valuable thing I have, my time. If you struggle in that area or just want to see what the best time management systems look like…

Check out Simpleology (the free version is excellent - the paid upgrade is more comprehensive)

PSS - If you become a Simpleology student user I’ll make a commission. If you’d like to help spread the message become an affiliate yourself. Let’s help people all over the world get more of their most valuable gift - their time
