Not being "John Malcontent"

If you are addicted to politics (like I am) you have a lot to be upset about and little to cheer about right now...

  • Donald Trump
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Bernie Sanders
  • John Kasich
  • Ted Cruz

They are the “final 5” and although there are legitimate 3rd party candidates (like Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party) most likely one of the 5 will be the next President of the United States of America.

In the last few weeks I’ve talked to people that have told me that they either…

  • Won't vote if one of those five is among the last 2 - OR
  • Won't’ stay in America if one of those five IS elected - OR
  • Don’t think their vote even matters any more

Oh my…

In the end it’s most likely that a voting population will elect the person that they feel they

  • know the best
  • like the most
  • trust the most

All 5 seem to have staunch supporters and virulent detractors.

No one group seems capable (at this point) of being remotely happy if their candidate doesn’t win and I think…

That conflict is a good thing (in that) it reflects the mechanics of democracy at work and it’s also bad that we the people can’t “just get along”.

For sure in America we have gone a long way towards the path of socialism that our founding fathers abhorred and warned against.

Our “poor” are among the richest people in the world population, yet...

We have thousands of “groups” - college students, senior citizens, minorities of every creed and color that feel “disadvantaged”.

People who think that they would prefer a government that takes more from others and gives more to them.

I think that’s both a testimony to great marketing by the socialists and poor marketing by the great institution of capitalism.

If this election does NOT go the way of Capitalism, please don’t get upset. Get inspired.

We can all move to Costa Rica but we’ll still need the mighty “sword” of the USA to protect us and our families  from the dictators and radicals of the world.

Let’s make America work again. Let’s find the next George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, Harry Truman, John Kennedy or Ronald Reagan.

But while we are looking, let’s be bold, honest and articulate with whomever we end up with.

I still feel greatly blessed and highly favored. How about you?

Bill Bateman
