Confidence Vs Arrogance, What's the Difference?

As a keen observer of human behaviour, I have noticed there is often some confusion in deciphering the difference between Confidence and Arrogance. I've heard people say " I would like to be more confident, but not too confident". They say this believing that arrogance is an extreme version of confidence. However I believe that confidence and arrogance are two very different entities and there is no clear line of continuity from one to the other. You may of course have your doubts about this statement and hold the view that there is definitely a link between the two.

So let’s take a closer look at confidence and arrogance to see if they are alike or different.

While most people admit to wanting more confidence, there is a tendency to put a limitation on how much. Ironically, confidence is about rising above limitations and embracing the idea of being more and doing more than you thought was possible. It is the cultivation of self-belief and a willingness to accept there is greatness within you. This self-assuredness and appreciation of one's own abilities or qualities is not coming from a place of arrogance, because a confident person recognizes and celebrates the potential greatness in others too.
A confident person emits positive energy and attracts attention for all the right reasons.
Why? Because deep down, we all aspire to greatness on a subconscious level and every time we see a confident person, it reminds us of our own inner greatness just waiting to be revealed.

You may have heard the expression 'over-confident' being used to describe someone who would more accurately fit the description of being 'arrogant'. It's quiet common for arrogance to be viewed as an extreme form of confidence, but in truth confidence and arrogance have very little to do with one another. First of all, confidence comes from a place of self-belief and acceptance whereas; arrogance acts as a mask to hide a deep seated fear of not being good enough and being judged by others. And while confidence embraces the idea of greatness within and in others too, arrogance is the denial of greatness in others which perpetuates a false sense of superiority. Where confidence attracts, arrogance repels. An arrogant person unknowingly emits an energy that's unappealing. Perhaps this is because arrogance reflects negative human qualities rather than the positive qualities that shine from confidence.

Is there such a thing as having too much confidence?
Well I have come to the conclusion that we are far more at risk in 'not' believing in ourselves enough, rather than having 'too much' self-belief. Confidence is a good and honourable thing to strive for, and the more confident we are, the more we will inspire others. In short, confidence is a desirable strength and arrogance is an unsavory weakness.

What could you achieve with a bit more confidence?
Remember, confidence is not about avoiding failure, it is striving to be more and do more in spite of experiencing failures. Be aware of the ‘confidence killers' like, self-criticism, negative associations and denying yourself the right to happy and fulfilled.

Keep your head up, shoulders back and move towards confidence avoiding arrogance at all costs.
