Do You Have Your Own Approval?

Do You Have Your Own Approval?

It's fair to say that the average person will go through their whole life seeking the approval of others. We are taught from an early age that external validation is something we need in order to fit in and feel good about ourselves.

"A man cannot be comfortable without his own approval".

~Mark Twain

The quote above makes a very astute point that a man (or woman) cannot be comfortable without his (or her) own approval. This approval represents self-acceptance and the giving of permission to yourself to be happy with who you are. Sure it's great to be endorsed by others, especially by those you respect, however it is YOU who needs to be fully on board with consenting to what you want to do and who you want to be.

It is no surprise that most people live a rather uncomfortable existence because they have not fully grasped the importance of self-approval. Looking for external approval, whilst internally practicing disapproval, causes great conflict.

Ironically, the more you give yourself permission to be happy, healthy and wealthy, the less approval you'll need from others. You no longer feel bound by the opinions of others when you're comfortable in your own skin. Being comfortable with who you are the beginning to unlocking your full potential and becoming the best version of you.

How to create self-approval.

Approving of yourself is not always an easy thing to do but there is a simple technique that can help override all the internal resistance you may experience. For example, instead of affirming what you want with a statement of "I am happy with who I am and fully accept myself". Try the following approach of,

“I give myself permission to be happy with who I am and fully accept myself".

By including the words 'I give myself permission' you are acknowledging that there is resistance but allowing yourself to move beyond this negative barrier.

Whatever you desire in life, give yourself permission to attain it. Remember, the approval of others alone will never be enough. YOU have to believe you deserve it.
This technique will work for just about anything from overcoming sleep deprivation to building a secure financial future. Start giving yourself permission today. Write a list of all the things awaiting your approval. Repeat often the words "I give myself permission to ____________” and you will break down all resistance standing in your way.
