Searching for the Optimal Engine...

"I build engines and attach wheels to them".

-Enzo Ferrari

Some quotes are straight forward and self-evident in their delivery, and this could be said of the Enzo Ferrari quote above. However, I believe there are so much more hidden depths of meaning in those simple 8 words and I hope to share them with you.

Searching for the optimal engine..
Enzo Ferrari was not a designer as such, but a racing driver who later facilitated the development and manufacturing of the world renowned Ferrari engine. He was an incredibly focused individual with a passion for speed and winning. His vision was to build a powerful engine that would wipe out all competition and dominate in the field of racing.

Today the iconic Ferrari is still seen as one of the most desired supercars to own and the mere sight and sound of one is enough to make grown men (and some gals of course) weak at the knees and foaming at the mouth. Why? Because Enzo created something special that would transcend time and last in its appeal. He aimed to create the best and did not settle for anything less. The external beauty of a Ferrari is just an extension of what truly makes it great - the engine. It's all about the engine and without the engine there is no Ferrari, just a nice looking car.

So now you're probably thinking, where are the hidden depths of meaning I mentioned earlier? Well consider this, Enzo Ferrari built an iconic and much loved car from the inside out with the engine central to its design. One of the things that separated the Ferrari engine from other engines was the attention to detail and the constant fine tuning to produce something superior that would exceed all expectation.

Owning a Ferrari may not be within everyone's reach, however there is something of far greater value that we're all already in possession of. It is often described as an incredible engine because it drives everything that we do. We cannot function without it and yet it is immensely under-used. What is this incredibly powerful engine I'm referring to? It's the BRAIN.

Just like the Ferrari engine your brain is capable of exceeding all expectations but only if you are willing to administer some fine-tuning. So how do you go from having an average underused brain to a high performing brain of excellence?

The thing that sets apart 'excellence' from the 'average' is MINDSET. It is the mindset that governs how your engine (brain) performs. If we adopt a negative mindset, our brain goes to work to produce negative repercussions on a mental and physical level, constantly feeding off the engine which is the driving force. In contrast, when we adopt a positive attitude the brain will manifest positive energy throughout the body enabling us to do amazing things and perform at our best.

Just like the Ferrari engine, your mindset is responsible for your performance. It will determine how fast and how far you go in life.

What type of engine do you own?
Having a working and functioning brain is wonder in itself, but if we want to win in life and be the champions we were designed to be, then it is essential that we build the right mindset. In the same way that the engine defines a Ferrari, it is the mindset that defines the individual. We are what we think and cannot out-perform the way we think.

Here are 3 tips to help you build and maintain an outstanding engine.

*1 Find the right component parts.
Every component of a Ferrari engine has a purpose and function. Building a positive mindset requires you to seek out the things that will aid you in improving your engine and disregard the things that are surplus to requirements. Avoid negative company and conversation. Replace bad habits with good life enhancing habits instead. Read only positive material; listen to uplifting audios, associate with others who are also fine tuning their minds in the pursuit of excellence. When we build our mindset on the inside, we shine brightly on the outside.

*2 Maintain your engine.
Great engines were created to run hard though this consumes a lot of fuel. If you want to get the best out of your engine (brain) you must feed it the right fuel to ensure its smooth running. Just as engines can sustain irreparable damage from using the incorrect fuel, a lack of good brain nutrition will be equally detrimental. If we neglect to maintain our engines, we run the risk of stalling. Without our working engines there can be no moving forward.

*3 Engines can be heard.
When it comes to supercars, you tend to hear them before you see them. The sound of a Ferrari engine exudes power and confidence; it is a riveting sound that demands your attention. Whether you know it or not, your engine can also be heard when you verbalise your thoughts. Think about the sounds you are making, are they positive ones? Do they attract or repel other people? Focus on developing positive communication skills with others and always leave them in better spirits than you found them in.
