A Bucket Full...Just For You

Nothing beats a simple yet profound quote. You read it, you absorb it, you get it. When I came across this particular quote, it lead me on to think more in-depth about life and all the buckets we carry around (metaphorically speaking) some buckets are very useful whilst others, not so much.

By following the simple philosophy of Alice Roosevelt Longworth, we could all achieve some great results. Does it not make sense to fill our buckets with the things we want more of in life? What about the things we could do without, why not empty our buckets of those undesirable contents? Perhaps you are thinking that this analogy is a tad too simple and life experiences cannot be represented by a series of buckets. But I'm asking you to humour me for a little longer because I do believe that the analogy is very fitting.

We often refer to ourselves and life as vessels, whether we're "full of joy" or "feel empty inside," or what about how life can sometimes feel as if it's overflowing with responsibilities and commitments?

If you are still reading this article, maybe you're coming round to the idea that the filling and emptying of buckets (metaphorically speaking of course) is something worth exploring further.
Imagine for a moment that you have a row of buckets, each one clearly labelled with an area of life you wish to increase. What would the labels read? Are you seeking more family quality time, peace of mind, happiness, companionship and laughter? You can identify the buckets that need filling up and every day work towards doing something to increase the volume of that bucket.

What about the buckets that you wish to empty? I'm sure you possess buckets full of things you would rather be rid of. However, the thing about filled buckets is that they tend to be rather heavy and difficult to manoeuvre. A bucket full of worry or debt will always appear heavier and more cumbersome than a bucket full of happiness. So what's the solution to emptying a bucket full of worry and woe?

The Solution

Remember the old children’s song with the lyric "There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza dear Liza....""?

Well a hole in a bucket happens to be a great way to get rid if of unwanted contents. Worry, debt  fear and ill health can be tricky things to dispose of but what if you were to drill a small hole in that troublesome bucket, then another, and another hole? Soon your bucket will resemble a sieve and little by little will be relieved of its contents. If more worry and debt were to pour into the top of that bucket, it would only be a matter of time before they would drain away.

It may take time to drill those holes and will require you to make some life changes, but learning new strategies and applying them allows you to puncture those burdensome buckets, and with every hole your burden will be reduced significantly until the bucket is light enough to be removed from your life permanently.

Oh...and that itch mentioned earlier in the quote? That's your intuition talking to you ... listen to it.

Here's a spare bucket just for you! go ahead and fill it with whatever you choose.
